About promotion

Someday when I met a friend who is working at ByteDance, we talked about the different promotion policies of the different companies. Most of the companies have the similar promotion policy like Baiduand Didi. If you think yourself be ready to the next level, you have to recommend yourself to your manager, after he agreed, you need to prepare for a 15-pages slide and 15-mins presentation. During the presentation, there will be at least 5 high-level staffs to review what you have done in the past, and finally to give their opinions on the cons/pros of your job and the yes/no. ByteDance is a little different, and they think the promotion should be the same to the interview process so there will be 3~4 1-1 interview rounds on what you have done, and the interviewers will give their opinion if you are qualified for the next level. It’s hardly to say which one is better, but the key point is the company should ensure that the polic is consistent and faire enough to everyone. I totally give my fine cents to the point that the promotion is another good chance to match the candidates and position more suitable just like the hiring, and the company is definitely worth paying more attention on it.
